On March 20-30, 2013 within the Open World Program, which is exchange program inside the legislative branch of the U.S. government with annual funding from the U.S. Congress, took place a study visit of the delegation from Precarpathian to the U.S.

The delegation consisted of deputy director of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Center for Investment and Development Natalia Kobylchak, deputy head of the Department for Implementation of Economic Reforms, European Union Integration and Investments of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration Lubov Smirnova, main specialist of Tourism Department of Foreign Economic Relations and Tourism of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration Mariana Kovalchuk, main specialist of the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council Natalia Sheshurak, lecturer of Management and Marketing Department of Economics faculty in Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University Dmytro Romaniuk.

The subject of study visit in which participated the delegates was connected to management (development) of local communities. The receiving organization wasRotary Club of Southern Seminole County, Florida, meeting of which was visited by delegates during their stay in Longwood, Florida.

Program participants visited the U.S. capital Washington, D.C. and Longwood, Florida. During the ten-day visit, the delegates get acquainted with functioning of American society, work of different government branches and free enterprise system, learned about the participation of business sector and non-profit organizations in solving of social and public issues as well as about the work with investors, investment attraction and so on.

Several meetings within the training program took place in Washington, D.C.  Among them are the meetings with general director of the Leadership Center "Open World" by John O'Keefe,program manager of Leadership Center "Open World" Lewis Madanik, president of the program "Training of Global Leaders",lecturer of Georgetown University Sam Potolikkio, president of association "Consultants on Regional Policy" Gary V. Hodge, judge of the Federal Court of Claims to the U.S. Government Bogdan Futey and lecturer of Georgetown University John Brown.Program participants get acquainted with a system of the United States government (legislative, executive and judicial branch);equality forms in the U.S.; cooperationpeculiarities between the state and private sectors in the U.S. (issues of public-private partnership); functioning ofjudicial system and respect to the law.During the meeting the participants discussed the prospects and ways of cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, development of commercial relations, investment attraction, creation of favorable environment for successful business development etc. Delegates visited the Library of the U.S. Congress and the Embassy of Ukraine where they had a meeting with the Ukraine’s Ambassador in U.S. Oleksandr Motsyk.

"Open World" members paid big attention to the activity of local governments (legislative, executive and judicial branches) in Seminole County, Florida (county population - 420 thousand people). Delegates learned about work experience related to economic development of the territories, business development, local budgets formation, organizations and holding of elections at the local level, etc.

Forthereference: "Open World" program is designed for the Ukraine’s leaders - representatives of different levels of state government, academic communities, NGOs, business structures etc. The program is first of all designed for the candidates who, despite their relatively young age, have already proved themselves as professionals in their field, shown their strong leadership skills and are interested in exploring the American experience and support of professional and personal contacts with American colleagues after returning to Ukraine. Main objective of the program is to form a better understanding between Ukraine and the United States by giving to the new leaders of Ukraine the opportunity to observe and learn the experience of political, business and social life of America. Target groups: Ukraine’s leaders - representatives of different levels of state government, local governments, academic communities, NGOs business structures etc.
