According to the news agency firtka.if.ua, Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas opened renewable energy Center on September 2013. 

Renewable Energy Center - is the next step in implementation of adopted energy efficiency program of university and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, meaning of which is in systematic work on development issues and implementation of innovation projects on energy efficiency improvement. In particular, the implementation of this program allowed the university almost complete its turning into energetic independence as well as provide heat for all university complex autonomously. The idea of Renewable Energy Center is implemented as scientific and research testing area where the use of alternative sources of energy in the form of integrated project for heating supply of sport complex facilities, hot water supply and water heating in the swimming pool of the university will be closely examined.

The structure of this system includes constructed roof gas mini boiler house with capacity of 800 kW, solar thermal power station based on solar collectors’ system with capacity 100 kW and resource recovery plant. The cost of such complex is about 2.5 mln. UAH and the total annual cost savings as a result of its commissioning will be about 400 thousand UAH.
