Today, there are a number of international and sub-regional organizations that provide financial assistance to SMEs through loans and grant programs.

We can distinguish two main international governmental organizations that provide real assistance to enterprises in Europe and that directly cooperate with Ukraine.

BUSINESS ADVISORY SERVICES (BAS)

BUSINESS ADVISORY SERVICES (BAS) - one of the EBRD programs loaning business and projects.

BAS projects last around four months and let enterprises develop and grow by enhancing their competitiveness, management, quality and strategic business planning.

Currently BAS has around 600 ongoing projects in 20 countries in South East Europe, Russia, Mongolia, Central Asia and the South Caucasus.

BAS contribution of 25 -75 % of the total net project cost, capped at €10,000.

International Finance Corporation (IFC)

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector in developing countries.

IFC typically finances only the high profitable enterprise in the newly industrial countries. IFC finances no more than 25% of the total project cost.

IFC does not require government guarantees for investment. Another feature of IFC investment is that it not only provides loans, but also invest in the equity of companies that are founded by the subsequent resale.

IFC provides to its member - countries, such as Ukraine, also technical assistance. It’s scope of consultations - capital, technology and management.

IFC investment program in Ukraine is spreading rapidly, focusing on investment opportunities in the financial sector, agribusiness, construction materials, retail trade and services, energy, producing equipment for transport and infrastructure.

European Investment Bank (EIB)

European Investment Bank – the state financial institution of the European Union, the aim of which is financing the European developing regions, in the form of long-term loans.

Bank loans can cover only the part of the project cost (usually no more than 50%).

EIB provides loans in such spheres as energy, transport and telecommunications.
