The NGO "Agency for Private Initiative Development" (ARPI) conducted a competitive selection of 12 territorial communities to participate in the project "Revealing the potential of heritage for the economic development of small communities". This project is being implemented by ARPI with the support of the HOVERLA USAID Project (Enhancing Local Self-Government Work and Accountability Efficiency).
28 applications from 27 territorial communities were evaluated by experts from ARPI and the USAID HOVERLA Project based on criteria in four categories: “Community Heritage”, “Resources and Capacities”, “Enterprise/Tourism Development”, and “Civic Institutions”. The experts also evaluated the motivation letters of the applicant communities. Based on the results of the evaluation, 12 territorial communities were selected to participate in the project, namely:

Within the framework of the project, a rapid assessment of the economic potential of cultural and natural heritage will be carried out for selected communities, followed by the preparation of an analytical report and targeted recommendations for each community. In addition, training will be organized for representatives of target communities to increase their capacity to develop and implement development projects based on local heritage. Three communities will also receive support in creating plans (local target programs) for the interpretation of cultural and natural heritage with practical recommendations for the development of tourism products.
The project “Identifying opportunities for the use of heritage for the economic development of small communities” aims to increase the economic sustainability of target communities by rapidly assessing the economic potential of their heritage and developing the capacity of local authorities to assess, manage and use existing heritage, as well as develop effective local development programs aimed at using the potential of local heritage. The project's objective is to provide partner communities of the USAID HOVERLA Project with effective local economic development tools and increase their capacity to manage and use their cultural and natural heritage for local development purposes.
