On September 18, 2015 at the House of Scientists in Ivano-Frankivsk the Scientific Park ‘Precarpathian University’ launched an innovation contest. The contest was to promote new opportunities to attract funding for potential Ukrainian business entities, development of innovative entrepreneurship and business skills, fostering of public-private partnerships; commercialization of applied research, conducted at the University.

Participants of the contest were students, graduate students, researchers and creative individuals who seek to promote innovative development of Ukraine, in particular in Ivano-Frankivsk region. 14 projects presented in various fields of applied sciences - biotechnology, radio and mechanical engineering, energy efficiency and alternative energy sources, ethnopolitology, the hospitality sector and pedagogy. During the competition, the authors of the projects submitted their business plans, made a presentation and answered questions from judges of the contest committee.

The event was attended by the rector of the University, Professor Igor Tsependa, professors and researchers, members of the contest committee, investors, businessmen and journalists. Honorary guest of the event was the Consul General Consulate of Poland in Lviv Dariusz Mihalik.

The winners became – the project ‘System ‘Solar Collector-thermoelectric generator’ (1st place, the author - Roman Dzumedzey, Precarpathian National University), ‘Development of drugs for the extension of the duration and quality of life and treatment of metabolic disorders’ (2nd place, the author - Oleg Lushchak, Precarpathian National University), ‘Turbo-rotor wind turbine’ (3rd place, Eugene Fedyuk, the teacher from Bohorodchany secondary school). The authors of the winning projects were awarded with diplomas and prizes. They will participate in a study tour to scientific parks in Poland. Other participants received diplomas of winners in the respective categories.

Note: Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University is one of the most popular and highest-rated universities in Ukraine. In the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, covering 21964 universities in the world, the university ranks 3508, 1106 in Europe and 23 in Ukraine. In terms of higher education in Ukraine (Scientometrics database Scopus) University ranks 11th among 120 universities. In the consolidated ranking of universities in Ukraine in 2015 by compiled information educational resource ‘Osvita.ua’ the University occupies 16th place. In 2014 the Precarpathian National University launched the Scientific training laboratory at the Institute of Ecology of biological science and National Contact Point for EU programs HORIZON - 2020 in the field of ‘nanotechnology, advanced materials and advanced modern production’.

The Scientific Park ‘Precarpathian University’ was created in April 2015 and is working to commercialize scientific developments (patenting ready for production, building a strategy for the entering developments in the market and finding required funding, the sale of patents, licensing, registration of know-how), process management (technology transfer, cooperation with national and international networks of technology transfer, the creation of research data bank, promoting technologies on the market), information and communication support (exhibitions, promotional events, conferences, forums, publishing, opening laboratories for park tenants), accounting, financial and legal support for business incubator tenants. Three main areas of applied scientific activity of the park are biotechnology, energy efficiency and IT technologies.
